Does anyone use the "g" letter combination keyboard shortcuts? I'm wondering where its origin are from. Also made a quick comparison table of them for Pinafore, Mastodon, X and Elk (Phanpy doesn't support them).
#KeyboardShortcuts #WebApps

Table of "g" + letter combination keyboard shortcuts for Pinafore, Mastodon, X and Elk. One of the rows show "h", which means users type "g + h", to go to the Home page. All the web apps perform the same action. Some letter combinations do different things for different web apps.

There seems to be a bug in the #Fedilab app as it is randomly, not consistently, truncating usernames.
In this screenshot, you see Auscandoc has been shortened to Ausc, Gertrude is shortened to G.
Although it is entertaining, perhaps it should be fixed?
I thought it might be the instance, but it doesn't happen using Tusky.

I've observed it's common for coders to have programming language gaps in basic knowledge. Two ways I've seen this come about:
1. Person learned language while solving set of problems that didn't need big parts of the language (e.g. string manipulation).
2. Person learned language on-the-job in group that adopted a kludge that spread through the group.
Please be kind to these folks while trying to guide them towards a more complete knowledge of the language.…

When I had to replace my (dead) Athlon 64 X2 with a Ryzen 5, I wasn't exactly satisfied. Sure, it was much more performant. However, Athlon used to need no cooling when (almost) idle. This meant that I could e.g. play movies using VDPAU (passively cooled GPU) with practically no noise whatsoever.
Ryzen had a pretty noisy fan even when idle — even worse, it suffered from some kind of resonance when set to "silent" profile. So far a long time I've settled on having some level of fan noise.
A few days ago, I've decided to try something new and set my own fan curve. Now here's a fun fact: I've managed to set it to disable the fan below 50°C — and it just worked. I mean, it doesn't seem to stop it completely but run on low torque that keeps it silent — and that is entirely sufficient to keep it below 50°C when not doing any heavy lifting.
In fact, unless I enable boost, it manages to be quite silent under load as well.

I had another realisation today while comparing my OpenSCAD model of B-DNA to the PDB model: the hydrogen bonds overlap the centre of the DNA helix, which means that the bond from the sugar to the hydrogen bonds to the other sugar is not a straight line.
This will complicate my constructions, but my biggest struggle is normalising that sugar-phosphate bond angle so that I have a consistent reference point for every base.
I'm almost ready to tackle that mountain.

Symbolic representation of DNA, with different colours for different bases (A - green; C: blue; G: gold; T: salmon), each represented additionally by different lengths depending on number of rings in the base, and different thicknesses depending on the number of hydrogen bonds. The DNA spins on its helical axis, giving the impression of movement from the bottom left to the top right of the image, while staying still.

The bases spell out a repeating pattern of 'GRINGENE' when translated into a …

Anybody know why ST allocates significant amounts of flash (e.g. 128 kB in the H735) for a factory-programmed bootloader, then doesn't give you the option to overwrite it and load something custom?
I really would like to be able to use that memory for my own field update features etc rather than being locked into using their bootloader or burning part of the normal application flash for a bootloader.

Abstract: In this study, we investigate interstellar absorption lines along the line of sight toward the galactic low-mass X-ray binary Cygnus X-2. We combine absorption line data obtained from high-resolution X-ray spectra collected with Chandra and XMM-Newton satellites, along with Far-UV absorption lines observed by the Hubble Space Telescope's (HST) Cosmic Origins Spectrograph (COS) Instrument. Our primary objective is to understand the abundance and depletion of oxygen, iron, sulfur, and carbon. To achieve this, we have developed an analysis pipeline that simultaneously fits both the UV and X-ray datasets. This novel approach takes into account the line spread function (LSF) of HST/COS, enhancing the precision of our results. We examine the absorption lines of FeII, SII, CII, and CI present in the FUV spectrum of Cygnus X-2, revealing the presence of at least two distinct absorbers characterized by different velocities. Additionally, we employ Cloudy simulations to compare our findings concerning the ionic ratios for the studied elements. We find that gaseous iron and sulfur exist in their singly ionized forms, Fe II and S II, respectively, while the abundances of CII and CI do not agree with the Cloudy simulations of the neutral ISM. Finally, we explore discrepancies in the X-ray atomic data of iron and discuss their impact on the overall abundance and depletion of iron.

I feel this strongly, as a dilettante #FOSS coder.
Modern mature software can be inherently complicated. PostgreSQL is a deep RDBMS that has been under development since the 80s. Writing new code for that is hard, especially in C. The only FOSS projects I‘m in at all active in are all Perl (i.e. ‘dilletante’) but they are also big and arcane. E.g. there are parts of

Am I missing something really obvious here?
"key" is a 32-byte stack variable that I write a string to, then pass to a function.
How does the pointer magically move by 18 bytes when passed as a function argument??? Obviously the data I read in StoreStringObjectIfNecessary() is wrong, it's not reading from the address I passed!

@… You've done bare metal Zynq-7 stuff right?
Do you have any kind of blog or resources to talk about how to set up an extreme minimalist no-OS bare metal Zynq firmware?
Ideally I'd like just a single source file (not generated by vivado, something I can actually write from scratch) that I can just build with arm-none-eabi-g , put on a SD card…
