There seems to be a bug in the #Fedilab app as it is randomly, not consistently, truncating usernames.
In this screenshot, you see Auscandoc has been shortened to Ausc, Gertrude is shortened to G.
Although it is entertaining, perhaps it should be fixed?

I've observed it's common for coders to have programming language gaps in basic knowledge. Two ways I've seen this come about:
1. Person learned language while solving set of problems that didn't need big parts of the language (e.g. string manipulation).
2. Person learned language on-the-job in group that adopted a kludge that spread through the group.
Please be kind to these folks while trying to guide them towards a more complete knowledge of the language.…

When I had to replace my (dead) Athlon 64 X2 with a Ryzen 5, I wasn't exactly satisfied. Sure, it was much more performant. However, Athlon used to need no cooling when (almost) idle. This meant that I could e.g. play movies using VDPAU (passively cooled GPU) with practically no noise whatsoever.
Ryzen had a pretty noisy fan even when idle — even worse, it suffered from some kind of resonance when set to "silent" profile. So far a long time I've settled on having some level of fan noise.
A few days ago, I've decided to try something new and set my own fan curve. Now here's a fun fact: I've managed to set it to disable the fan below 50°C — and it just worked. I mean, it doesn't seem to stop it completely but run on low torque that keeps it silent — and that is entirely sufficient to keep it below 50°C when not doing any heavy lifting.
In fact, unless I enable boost, it manages to be quite silent under load as well.

They are well-supported since late 2022 and quite a few users might still be using older (Android) devices and browsers. I had another realisation today while comparing my OpenSCAD model of B-DNA to the PDB model: the hydrogen bonds overlap the centre of the DNA helix, which means that the bond from the sugar to the hydrogen bonds to the other sugar is not a straight line.
This will complicate my constructions, but my biggest struggle is normalising that sugar-phosphate bond angle so that I have a consistent reference point for every base.
I'm almost ready to tackle that mountain.

Abstract: In this study, we investigate interstellar absorption lines along the line of sight toward the galactic low-mass X-ray binary Cygnus X-2. We combine absorption line data obtained from high-resolution X-ray spectra collected with Chandra and XMM-Newton satellites, along with Far-UV absorption lines observed by the Hubble Space Telescope's (HST) Cosmic Origins Spectrograph (COS) Instrument. Our primary objective is to understand the abundance and depletion of oxygen, iron, sulfur, and carbon. To achieve this, we have developed an analysis pipeline that simultaneously fits both the UV and X-ray datasets. This novel approach takes into account the line spread function (LSF) of HST/COS, enhancing the precision of our results. We examine the absorption lines of FeII, SII, CII, and CI present in the FUV spectrum of Cygnus X-2, revealing the presence of at least two distinct absorbers characterized by different velocities. Additionally, we employ Cloudy simulations to compare our findings concerning the ionic ratios for the studied elements. We find that gaseous iron and sulfur exist in their singly ionized forms, Fe II and S II, respectively, while the abundances of CII and CI do not agree with the Cloudy simulations of the neutral ISM. Finally, we explore discrepancies in the X-ray atomic data of iron and discuss their impact on the overall abundance and depletion of iron.
